Best Start Group
Every parent wants the best for their child, this Group aims to help you build on the strengths you already have, teach you new skills, increase your knowledge of child development, all the while having fun with your baby.
WHY:
- does my baby smile?
- do I need to talk to her?
HOW:
- do I help her learn?
- do I know when I’ve done something right?
WHAT:
- does it mean when she won’t settle?
- toys do I need for her?
WHERE:
- can I go to find answers to the above?
THE GROUP:
- will be small/ 6/8 babies and parents
- will focus on the child parent relationship
- will be supportive and focus on -parental involvement
- will use photographs and video -feedback to encourage and show
- positive interactions
- will have input from the Health Visitor including baby massage
Tots Group
Currently on Thursdaysfor 1-2 year olds, where children can stay and play with their families.
Provides a positive play environment where families can play together and promote child development.
Dads Group
Dads count - Male carers of under-5s who live with their children are now doing more that one-third of the childcare. We as a centre welcome any male carer to join in with any of our groups.
In addition we do organise special events to attract more male carers into the centre. Please contact us if you would like to get involved or have any ideas to welcome you further.

Job Centre Plus
The Centre has links with Jobcentre Plus to enable Parents and Carers to access a number of services that they provide.
These services include:
- Job Searching and Support with
- Getting back to work
- Support and Advice with benefits including job seekers allowance, new deal for partners and lone parents.
- Partnership working to provide routes into training and work.
We have an information point and a “warm” phone which links directly to Jobcentre Plus.
Debt Advice
Money Advice Surgery at Gardners Lane Children's Centre - Problems with paying your rent? Receiving threatening letters from your Landlord? In debt to loan sharks? Can't pay the Credit Card Bills? Threatened with eviction or Court action? Can't pay the Catalogue Company? Struggling to pay the gas or electricity bill? Threatened with diconnection? Baliffs at the door or received a letter from a baliff? Can't pay that court fine? Water Bill arrears? Struggling with the mortgage?Our Money Advice Worker, Gary Mills is available on alternate Wednesdays & Thursdays to assist you with money advice. Its Free and confidential! It does help to talk over your situation. Speak to a member of staff for more information.
